Bridge Classes
*please note that all classes will be held online.*
We understand how difficult school – and life – have been since the world changed this March. For many districts, virtual school was difficult to deliver this spring, and students found themselves rudderless, with very little in the way of online instruction and enrichment. That’s why this summer First Choice Prep is offering Bridge Classes in Maths, Sciences, and the Humanities to help students bridge the gap from last school year to the next. We’ll make sure your child avoids the “Covid Slide” and is ahead of the curve come September.
Algebra 1 – Geometry: this two-week course will take students through the major concepts and skills they should have learned in Algebra 1 this Spring and introduce them to the foundational concepts in Geometry. Classes will be held Monday – Thursday each week, 9:30am – 11:30am, August 3rd – 13th. Students can choose to purchase the entire course or the first half (review of Algebra 1) or the second half (intro to Geometry).

Introduction to Coding. Making Video games, animations, and simulations:
This course is designed to be a fun and easy introduction to computer programming for students as young as 7. This course is based on the MIT developed programming language, Scratch. While learning the basics of coding, students will see first-hand the application of mathematics in programming. Most classes will use a mathematical topic to teach a programming concept. The mathematical topics introduced include:
- Positive and negative numbers
- Skip counting/multiplication
- Percentages
- Geometry- Shapes and Angle measurements.
- XY coordinate plane and Cartesian Coordinates
- And Variables.
Challenges will be used with each lesson to build intuition and critical thinking while students learn how to program. Each class will have a period of time to work on challenges and explore scratch in the presence of an experienced instructor. By the end of the course, students will be able to code their own basic video games, animations, and simulations. This two week course meets July 27 – August 7th, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 5:30pm – 7:00pm. $345.
SAT and ACT Boot Camps
Our boot camps are designed to give students the essential knowledge they’ll need to confidently attack the SAT or the ACT. Over the course of two weeks, students will learn the most effective skills and strategies on all sections of the test they’re prepping for.
Boot camps are split into two halves: the first week will focus on verbal skills like reading, grammar, and writing, and the second two days will focus on math, data interpretation, and science (ACT only). Students may opt to sign up for either half of the boot camp or the entire course. These boot camps are perfect for sophomores just starting out on the test prep process and juniors looking to boost their scores on the SATs and ACTs being offered this summer and fall.
August 17 – 27, Monday – Thursday, 7pm – 8:45pm
Cost: $645 for full course, $395 for half (verbal or math/science)
